This is awesome. Hopefully by adding to this website we can all have additional flashbacks into yesteryear.
Looking forward to hearing from some '69ers & others.
Count me in to help in any way.

Jim -- What a happy surprise to find this website. Thank you for putting it together. It brings back so many memories of an extraordinary place, filled with some extraordinary people. I've told my kids tales of St. Peter's, now they can see some of it for themselves. Frank Devine

This is excellent. Brings back many great memories!
Thanks for a great website. We were all so very lucky to have been associated with such a great school. A few memories: Fr Condon's history classes. Fr Toste threatening to scratch the length of the blackboard when we couldn't come up with the answer he wanted. Beating Gloucester in football 25-0. Watching the '67 World Series in Fr Whipple's class room. The incredible victories in the state drama competition.
And on and on

Great site. Only at St. Peters my freshman year but still remember it well. I was in Fr Toste's english class and I remember he occaisionally threw a book at someone (me included) and said "OK..whats the last thing I just said" just to be sure we are paying attention..lol

Why did Saint Peter's close?

Several reasons. We were built too far out; we never achieved the full student population; the Holy Cross Priests and Brothers (of which I am one) were too interested in providing a first-class educational experience, rather than kissing (anatomy) of the Chancery officials. [I ran the bookstore and was accused of embezzlement without proof, for instance].
The Cardinal was a genuinely good person, manipulated by one or more of his staff in his final illness. We never blamed him, but the officials who brought all this about. They got him to expel us from the diocese, a terrible bad move later rescinded but too late.
I eventually, to my surprise and that of many others, was ordained in 1979.

I was very sad when St. Peter's closed. I was one on the students that was part of the second and last graduating class. It's been 40 years since then. I wish there is a reunion.

To Jim and other contributors,
I came across this by accident ... what a great job! Would love to stay connected and will certainly be back.
Had to laugh out loud at the picture of the combination lock ... I not only have mine but my younger brother's, Peter who attended for a year. Both are still in use and I think of St Peters each time I use them!

Wow, what a lot of memories from some very happy days in my early teaching career. Hard to believe I could have been so skinny! That was a lot of years and pounds ago. Thanks for putting up the site, Jim.

Great website! You show the same talent and expertise that you did as stage manager and with Fr. T's productions that was no easy job. St. Peter's was special and I appreciate it far more now than I did then. Thanks to you and Fr Toste for for the work and maintenance that goes into this site. Like the back of the Mister Roberts program said..."St. Peter's will live forever".
Wonderful website! My then-and-now photos would be the same, just 40-some years in between. Ok, we all change a bit.
I kept doing radio part-time for many years and eventually entered a seminary and became ordained. I still work in radio, broadcasting for the visually impaired and homebound from the King's College (Wilkes-Barre PA) radio station.
I've also been writing on music for a local newspaper for many years, based mostly on my knowledge from being a dj.
St. Peters was a wonderful place and as much as I had to give "the look" at some of the students, I thought they were all great people.

Brother Tom Carten (now Father Tom) was my mentor and good friend. Some of my best memories are of being in his radio club at St. Peter's.
I live near Seattle, WA now, and can be reached at cushingjp@hotmail.com.
Hello Jim,
As you may know I completed sophomore year at St. Peter's. The "Prep" was next for me and many others. Now I am "distilling" across the rotary at Blackburn Industrial Park. Come by and we can discuss getting some type of event going.

Thanks Jim, great web site. I just came across it. I attended St. Peter's from 1966 through 1970, and graduated in the class of 1970. After graduating from North Shore Community College in 1973', I entered the United States Marine Corps and served for 26 years. I now work for the Boeing Company training F-22 Pilots.

Thanks to my old friend John Graves for letting me know about this site and to Jim Capillo for taking the initiative.. I've lived in San Francisco for my entire adult life and currently am head of a non-profit preschool and a psychotherapist in private practice. I will always be grateful to our instructors and especially the Holy Cross fathers and brothers for the exceptional education they provided. I hope to make it to the 50th!

I discovered this set not too long ago. I wanted to thank Jim for putting this site together. I spent 4 yrs there and it was great to see faculty and fellow friends and faculty that I knew then.
I was saddened to read Fr Hawkins and Fr Toste died as they both played a large role in my life. I have been able to find on the Internet other former faculty at St Peters such as Fr Joe Long and Fr Delonzo.
I was also saddened to learn that my best friend and former high school class mate Ken S Rust.
Please keep me posted about any reunions.
Thank You

I was just notified that St. Peter's has a web site. What a great find. I was in the class of 1970. I was blessed with a great education from a dedicated and caring staff. So sad to know that we have lost so many in our school.

Jim: The website is terrific. One can spend hours (as I did) scanning all the sites and rekindling memories of St. Peter's Boy's High School.
I was diappointed when the school closed. I think I would have spent my entire teaching career there. It was most enjoyable.
As it was, I taught for 12 years at Ipswich Junior high School until 1982 when my wife and I left to live in Largo, Florida. I taught science in the Pinellas County School Systemand I served as a guidance counselor before retiring in 2009.
I return to Quincy, Mass. and Gloucester during the Summer months to visit friends and relatives and enjoy sights and sounds of the Greater Boston area.
This year (2015) sounds like it may be reunion year. If so, can you let me know about the date, time, and place. I would like to attend if it is possible.
Thanks for creating this lovely site,

Jim, What a great job! It's great to relive all the memories of St. Peter's. Although I only attended my freshman year there in 1969 I'll always remember the Montreal vacation in February with the French class as well as sneaking off to swim at the quarry.

Jim,
Thank you for putting the site together.
My daughter played a middle school basket ball game at the school, a few years ago. It was like stepping back in time. Everything looked the same to me, adding a few years for wear and tear. I was happy the building is still being used for education.
St. Peter's was an event not just a school. I have the great memories and thankful for the education I received there.
Best to everyone!

Attended St. Peter's from 1966 - 1969.
Never have forgiven myself for transferring to Gloucester high.
Played some on football and basketball teams.
Played in Jazz Band there and sang in the glee club.
Thanks for the website!

I was a junior when St. Peter's closed and attended Bishop Fenwick for my senior year. Several of my St. Peter's classmates also attended Bishop Fenwick for their senior year but it was obviously not the same. I remember fondly my years in the drama club, never having a leading role, but always on stage in some capacity in Becket, McBeth, Royal Hunt of the Sun, Tea House of the August Moon, Stalag 17. I always wanted to organize a reunion for what would have been the class of "71" but was unable to gather much interest. I do remember others form the class of "69 & 70" and would like to attend a reunion with those classes in the future.

I just found this website (2019). I only went to St. Pete's for two years, but my brother Mike graduated in 1969. Unfortunately I have bad news about Mike. He passed away at his home in Worcester. His wake and funeral were attended by hundreds of his friends and family in his parish church, Christ the King, where he was a deacon. Very moving tributes to his loving, kind, and expressive way.

I was a teacher at St. Peter's during its last year. Recently I was swimming at a pool in Naples, FL and struck up a conversation with a gentleman from Gloucester. Eventually the conversation got around to St. Peter's and I found out he was a junior in its last year. This motivated me to find this web site. I would love to attend a reunion.

Recently found out about this site. Class of would be 71 but school closed after junior year. Great experience at St. Peter’s with many cherished memories. From Salem and rode bus with many others from Peabody Beverly and Lynn miss my football buddies and coach Nate Ross McCarthy and the Chief. Bob Seaver drove the bus home later in evening. Lost fellow classmate John Bick. 10 years past. Keep in touch with Steve Gness regularly. Fr Tostie lived in Sanbornville NH for awhile where my family has vacation home. He married my wife Maureen’s back in 1977. Remrmber going to school trip to Europe with Jerry schmil, the Clrmenzi brothers and others which Dick Bannister chaperoned. Many national events happed such as man walking on moon, Vietnam war and protests, Martin Luther band Robert Kennedy assasinations and great music from Beatles and many other bands Pandemic ongoing now. Hope this message reaches fellow classmates. Reunion maybe in 2021.
